The area, steeped in shadowy Scottish history and having been known for centuries as Scotland’s ‘dark village’, will have its own dedicated distillery and craft brewery in the form of Glen Luss.

Daniel Lewis, Trystan Powell and Patrick Colquhoun came together to devise the plans for the new site last year, looking to create an experimental space encapsulating the heart of Luss in innovative new brews.

According to their website, plans for the Distillery will seek to support the local community in Luss with the creation of 26 full time positions as well as shorter term job opportunities - with 30% of these reserved for those in the Luss and Arden Parish.

Glen Luss Distillery directors Daniel Lewis, Trystan Powell and Patrick Colquhoun will be moving ahead with expansive plans for the Luss' first distillery after receiving planning permission this February.

They also state that the site will ‘utilise existing buildings within the centre of Luss Village and create additional spaces that complement existing key infrastructure and proposed town developments.’

These include Discovery and Learning Centres, where visitors can learn more about the area’s rich local history as well as the brewing and distilling process at the site in addition to the Craft Brewery and Distillery itself, and a Making & Tasting Experience Centre and Cask Experience Centre.

Central to the site’s aims are its hopes to bring locals and tourists into the Luss community to find out more about it and sample some of the area’s local produce, along with Glen Luss’ own beverages.

Daniel Lewis, Operations Director said: "Last week we received the great news that our planning application had been approved by Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. We are progressing other aspects of the project, including the detailed design and construction plans, as well as our recruitment process, with the potential for up to 30 jobs being created.

“This is a major milestone in our journey to build the first experimental brewery and distillery on the shores of Loch Lomond, creating craft drinks and experiences. We look forward to welcoming visitors in the latter part of 2021."

Trystan Powell, Visitor Experience Director added: “Over the last couple of months we have advertised for a number of roles, including Sales & Marketing Manager, Master Distiller, Visitor Centre Manager and Office Administrator. We have been delighted with the calibre of applicants and have been conducting initial interviews with candidates. We are still in the early stages of our recruitment process and over the coming months we will continue to assess applicants with a view to finding the ideal candidates for each role.”

Patrick Colquhoun, Sales Director stated: “The Scottish food and drink industry is world renowned for its focus on quality and provenance. We are excited to continue to develop our plans for our range of premium craft drinks, inspired by Luss’ rich history and heritage.”
