On 3rd February 1941 the freighter S.S. Politician slipped her moorings and sailed into history and legend.
Her unfortunate demise in the Sound of Eriskay presented the local inhabitants of the Islands of the Outer Hebrides with an irrestible opportunity, which was subequently immortalised by the pen of Sir Compton MacKenzie.
This whisky, too, has been inspired by the folklore surrounding the tale of the 'Polly' and thus bears the name Whisky Galore.
